JR East Suigun Line

The Asahi Shimbun reported on August 22 that the train was delayed because the driver of JR East’s Suigun Line forgot the password for his business tablet. JR East seems to have digitized the timetable for drivers from June 2022 and switched to tablet terminals.

I forgot my password and can’t see the timetable

According to the Asahi Shimbun, a driver who works at the Sendai branch of JR East forgot the password for a business-use tablet device and was unable to check the timetable. Trains were delayed by up to 23 minutes, affecting 60 passengers.
In June 2022, JR East implemented the digitization of timetables for drivers, which were conventionally managed on paper.
Since there are multiple terminals used by the driver, it seems that he could not open the lock screen of the tablet that displays the timetable because he did not know the combination of terminal and password.
In 2013, JR East distributed 7,000 business-use iPad minis to crew members. In addition, the model of tablet used by the driver this time is unknown.
According to the Kahoku Shimpo, on July 8, JR East’s driver forgot the password for the tablet and could not check the timetable, and the Senseki Tohoku Line rapid train was delayed. In the July case, he had obtained a paper timetable from a colleague and resumed driving.
The Asahi Shimbun reports a comment from the JR Fukushima branch saying, “Thorough guidance will be given so as not to forget the password.”
